Don't Accept Average
"It's so easy to be average. You know it as well as I know it...It takes a little something to be special. It takes a little something special to be a great player... We don't want to coach average. I don't want to be around you. Why be around average?" - Urban Meyer
We're wired to accept average. Average is comfortable - it's the path of least resistance. It asks for nothing extra, demands no sacrifice, and settles for "good enough." But average never wins championships, raises test scores, reaches their full potential, nor becomes what TRUE Red Devils aspire to be. It never inspires. It never leaves a legacy. Greatness requires something more. It asks you to stretch further, to demand more from yourself than circumstances demand, and to refuse to coast where others settle. To be great, you can't accept average habits, average effort, or average standards - not from yourself, not from your team, not from your classmates, not from your coworkers, not from your peers, not from anyone you want to build with. Average is easy. Greatness is hard. That's the point. It's supposed to be hard. The gap between average and great is closed in the little things. Schools, teams, teachers, and staff, along with players who accept average, never reach their potential. They live in excuses, not excellence. But those who refuse to be average create a standard that pulls everyone higher. They know greatness doesn't come by accident - it comes from refusing to lower the bar, day after day. Don't accept average. Not in yourself. Not in your teammates. Not in your culture. Not in your school. We Will Get Better. It’s a GREAT day to be a Red Devil!!!

From the Nursing Department:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are pleased to inform you that our school will conduct a vision screening for students on September 25, 2025. Students are screened every two years (Pre-K, K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th). Regular vision screenings are essential for identifying potential vision problems that may affect learning and development.

Important Reminder: If your child wears glasses, please ensure they bring them to school on the day of the screening. This will help us get the most accurate results.

If you do not wish to have your child screened, please contact your school registered nurse to complete the Opt-Out Form prior to the scheduled date.

Please contact the school office if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter!

Dear Parents and Students,

I want to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and dedication. As we prepare for the upcoming pep rally, I’d like to share some important reminders:

Class Attendance: I have noticed that many students are absent from class during the day. Education comes first. If cheerleaders and students need to hang signs, this must be done before or after school to ensure they are present in class.

Seating Arrangements: All grades from 5th to 12th should be seated in the bleachers from left to right, while parents can sit on the floor. Chairs will be provided for parents, but space is limited. It is suggested they bring their own chairs. Homeroom teachers are expected to supervise their students in the bleachers.

Stage Policy: No students will be allowed on the stage, period. The curtains will remain closed.

Cell Phone Policy: Cellphones are not allowed during pep rallies. Failure to adhere to this rule may result in the cancellation of future events. While we want students to enjoy themselves, we must maintain a focus on our school environment. We will ensure that everyone is let out in time to report to lockers before dismissal.

We have ample room in the bleachers for all students, and your supervision is essential. Thank you once again for your support!

Now that the 25-26 school year is underway, we are off to a good start. Just a few reminders: as I research district policy and speak with district personnel, we need to address a few things.

Please continue getting students to school. If we are going to improve test scores and put Port Barre in its rightful place at the top of the district, we have to work together. Attendance is the key to success. Thank you for your support and help in being here every day. We MUST get better, and we can always improve.

Regarding safety at games, please remember that district policy prohibits tobacco, alcohol, or firearms at any time on campus grounds, including the athletic complex. Refrain from having any alcohol, tobacco products, or weapons of any sort on any school campus or athletic facilities.

We have amazing students and teachers. Let’s ensure they are at school daily so we can show up and show out for the district. I appreciate you all.
